Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW)

For the fourth time ever, Jordan has launched the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) in Amman and other regions of Jordan. I got the chance to visit many of the events held and organized by the GEW partners and sponsored by Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship (QRCE). This great idea has gathered students, business leaders, employees, celebrities, educators, officials from the governmental sectors and entrepreneurs of all ages and put them all in one place at one time so ideas would flourish and turn into reality.

I wanted to highlight some of the interesting things that I have learned that made me think: This week should happen EVERY week in Jordan.

The BDC (Business Development Center) and Maharat Program were part of this great event, and they actually won as the best partnership during the closing event. They offered several intellectual meetings that mainly hosted business leaders and entrepreneurs, concentrated on turning ideas into small projects and businesses, and encouraged each person to be his/her own leader. We met with;

–          Zena Michael, a young woman who started her own business by launching an E-Learning website.

–          Mr.Ghaleb Hijazi, a man who believes that NOW is the time for you to start building your life career, grow your passion and polish your skills to become an entrepreneur.

–          Mr.Ali Dahmash, a leader in the social media world, his passion drove him into opening his own social media agency “REACH”.

–          Mr.Firas Hamdan, with a simple game he proved to us that you need to practice a skill enough times to MASTER it. He also established his own training and consulting corporate “HUB Academy”.

–          Mr.Fares Al-Sayegh, a great example of how a small idea could turn into a huge corporation when accompanied with planning and determination. His fantastic lecture about his business ROYA TV CHANNEL was impressive; this channel -in a very short time- became #4 in Jordan after the famous MBCs, and is now aiming to be #1.

These are just few examples of inspiring people who stopped for a minute and thought, “Where do I want to be in 10 years?”, and their answer was defiantly not behind the disk waiting for my monthly salary. Something Mr.Ghaled said and really clicked;

(Your excitement starts when you leave your comfort zone).
